The IASLC offers a variety of education and mentorship awards to help researchers from around the world attend the IASLC 2022 World Conference on Lung Cancer (WCLC 2022). Award winners are determined by an international, multidisciplinary review committee comprised of IASLC members.

Early Career Awards

Early Career awards are available for fellows, students, trainees or post-doctoral researchers with a professional degree within three years of initial faculty appointment. This award provides the opportunity for presenters of high rated abstracts to grow professionally by attending educational sessions, networking and developing professional relationships with colleagues from around the world.

BENEFITS OF EARLY CAREER AWARD

  • Complimentary registration to the IASLC 2022 WCLC Worldwide Virtual Event
  • Complimentary 1-year IASLC membership
  • Up to 4 nights accommodation at a conference contracted hotel (booked by IASLC) 
  • A fixed monetary amount (TBC) to help offset travel costs

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR EARLY CAREER AWARD

  • Fellow, student, trainee or a post-doctoral researcher with a professional degree within three years of initial faculty appointment (e.g., you must be appointed to faculty after August 5, 2019)
  • Submit (as presenter) and have accepted an abstract for WCLC
  • You must certify/agree that you do not already have funding from another source (employer, etc.)

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR APPLYING

  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Personal statement describing how this award would further your professional development in the field of lung cancer
  • Statement by an active IASLC member specifying your role in the research and supporting the application (NOTE: if a member is not available in your country, the statement can be from a supervisor who is not an active member.)
  • Verification of your current trainee status, and/or proof of date of training completion
  • If applicable, proof of date of initial faculty appointment

SELECTION CRITERIA AND PROCESS
Applications are reviewed and scored by IASLC staff and Regional Committee. Final selections are made from the highest scoring abstracts to achieve diversity and regional representation.

Developing Nations Awards

Developing Nations awards are available for trainees and residents of countries listed on the IASLC Membership Guidelines webpage*. This award provides the opportunity for presenters of high rated abstracts from developing nations to grow professionally by attending educational sessions, networking and developing professional relationships with colleagues from around the world.

Nurse or Allied Health Professional Awards

The Nurse or Allied Health Professional awards consist of up to 5 awards offered in two categories: Early Career and Developing Nations. The number of awards in each category will be approximately equal with the final numbers determined by the quality of applications received.  The awards provide opportunities for Nurse and Allied Health presenters of high rated abstracts to grow professionally by attending educational sessions, networking and developing professional relationships with colleagues from around the world.

BENEFITS OF NURSE OR ALLIED HEALTH PROFESSIONAL AWARD

  • Complimentary registration to the IASLC 2022 WCLC Worldwide Virtual Event
  • Complimentary 1-year IASLC membership
  • Up to 4 nights accommodation at a conference contracted hotel (booked by IASLC)
  • A fixed monetary amount (TBC) to help offset travel costs

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR NURSE OR ALLIED HEALTH PROFESSIONAL AWARD

  • Submit (as presenter) and have accepted an abstract for WCLC
  • Professional role in Nursing or Allied Health (see list below)
  • For Early Career Applicants: Within 3 years of initial faculty appointment or within 3 years of completing training in a nursing or allied health professional setting (For example, the candidate must be appointed to faculty or have accepted placement no later than August 5, 2019).
  • For Developing Nation Applicants: Must reside in one of the countries identified by the World Bank list as a Developing Nation. This list is located on the IASLC website: https://www.iaslc.org/Membership/Developing-Countries-List
  • You must certify/agree that you do not already have funding from another source (employer, etc.)

Applications are reviewed and scored by IASLC staff and NAHP Committee members. Final selections are made from the highest scoring abstracts to achieve diversity and regional representation.

Patient Advocate Education Awards

The IASLC Patient Advocate Educational Awards provide an opportunity for patients/survivors, carers/caregivers, and patient advocates to be a part of IASLC’s most anticipated global conference: the IASLC World Conference on Lung Cancer (WCLC). The number of educational awards shall be limited to a maximum of five. Fewer than the maximum amount may be awarded, depending on interest, qualifications of the applicants, and the review process.

Special consideration will be given to applicants who have never been awarded a WCLC Patient Advocate Educational Award (formerly, the WCLC Patient Advocate Travel Award). If you have previously won this award we strongly encourage you to apply to participate in the IASLC STARS Program.

BENEFITS OF PATIENT ADVOCATE EDUCATION AWARD

  • Complimentary 2022 WCLC registration;
  • Up to four nights’ accommodation at one of the Conference contracted hotels;
  • A fixed monetary amount (to be determined based on your region) to help offset other travel costs; and
  • Additional funds of USD 500 awarded to each recipient to be used towards a project in their home community that improves patient engagement and outcomes.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR PATIENT ADVOCATE EDUCATION AWARD

  • Applicants must be individual patients/survivors with a lung cancer diagnosis, carers/caregivers of a loved one with a lung cancer diagnosis, or professional patient advocates who work for a non-profit organization focused on lung cancer.
  • The individual applying must be a current member of the IASLC for 2022 (visit www.iaslc.org/membership to join);
  • The applicant must have demonstrated commitment and experience in lung cancer patient advocacy.
  • For organizations applying, you must nominate ONLY ONE individual to represent the organization; multiple applications from individuals from the same organization will not be considered.
  • For the health and safety of meeting attendees, applicants must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

AWARDEE EXPECTATIONS

  • Attend a preconference virtual meeting to connect with fellow awardees and patient advocates;
  • Develop a conference session attendance plan;
  • Attend the Patient Engagement Meeting during the WCLC;
  • Attend a virtual meeting after the completion of WCLC to share learnings and present a project update;
  • Submit a written project update 6 months after the WCLC; and
  • Agree to participate virtually to support future award winners of this award.
